The Contemporary Dayton is pleased to present A voice from I don’t know where, new paintings by acclaimed, nationally exhibited Dayton based artist Tyler Macko.
These new works speak to the entanglement of prescribed American history with the more felt histories of family and place. The large-scale paintings in this exhibition address the idea of a crumbling Americana at the nexus of domesticity, consumption, comfort, memory and loss.
Culling from the history of American decorative arts, Macko creates unique physical worlds that intertwine recognizable objects, images and materials in juxtapositions that push them into the realm of the enigmatic while still speaking to the issues of everyday life. Reflecting a truth in our surroundings, they unveil something new that might otherwise go unnoticed.
