Yeck Artist in Residence Community Workshops
Led by local artists Kyle and Kelly Phelps, these two-day workshops engage guests in the molding and casting process. You will learn the basics of mold-making to create a life cast of your hand to create a story-telling sculpture. All materials will be provided by the Dayton Art Institute. No experience is necessary.
Kyle and Kelly Phelps are identical twin artists and professors based in Ohio who collaborate on ceramic, sculpture and mixed-media work highlighting the experiences and struggles of blue-collar workers, race relations and everyday people, drawing on their upbringing in a Midwestern factory town. They are currently featured as the Dayton Art Institute’s Yeck Artists in Residence and their artwork is on display in our Lange Family Experiencenter.
Please note: This is a two-day workshop, with the second day held outside, weather permitting. All workshop days run 11AM - 5PM. Lunch is NOT provided. Workshops are only for ages 13+. Power tools and chemicals are used in the molding and casting process.
