Virtually join the DSA for a fiber art workshop over Zoom! Meet instructor, Carole Staples and learn about her artistic practice. Follow along and use the kit included in registration to explore your own fine art fiber art mask with thread, glue, and or a hot glue gun to make one similar to the one pictured above! Note: Knowledge of hand sewing is a plus, but not required

Registrants will pick up their fiber art kits from the High Street Gallery (48 High Street, Dayton) 12pm-5pm: Friday, January 22 or Saturday January 23, 2021

Registration is limited. Registration is only $5 thanks to an MCACD Special Projects Grant! (If the $5 is cost prohibitive, e-mail director@daytondsa.org or call 937-228-4532 for free registration!)

Fiber Art Kit Includes

  • Needle
  • Black Thread
  • Fabric Glue
  • 10x12" Black Felt
  • 10x12"Peltex Fabric
  • Variety of Upholstery Fabric
  • Variety of embellishments

Additional Materials Needed

  • Scissors
  • Optional (recommended): Glue gun with glue sticks
  • Optional: Additional upholstery fabric or embellishments such as ribbon, buttons, beads, etc.
  • Optional: Sewing Machine

Carole Staples
Carole Gary Staples is an award winning textile and fiber artist and curator who has been designing with fabric and fibers creating art for over thirty years. Born and raised in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, her artistic training began at a very early age when she was selected to attend the prestigious Tam O’ Shanter art program at Carnegie Mellon University. Her artistic training continued later at the University of Pittsburgh and subsequently at Seton Hill University where she received a Bachelors of Arts degree.

Carole’s work has been exhibited in museums and art galleries throughout United States as well as venues in South Africa, Europe and Asia. Her work has been published in numerous books, newspapers and exhibit catalogs. She has also taught a variety of workshops and classes across the country.  Throughout her career she has been honored to create pieces for charity as part of her work. She has created pieces for various breast cancer charities such as Bricks a long The Journey, Sisters Network Inc., and Quilts for The Cause.

Carole has lived in various cities across the northeast and mid-west including Pittsburgh, PA, Silver Spring, MD AND Penfield, NY . All of which were instrumental in shaping her artistic expression.  She currently resides in West Chester Ohio with her husband Floyd and is the mother of two beautiful daughters and three darling grandkids.

Introducing...
The purpose of the workshop series, Introducing..., is to acquaint DSA members and the community to different mediums and methods in the visual arts. In conjunction, the attendees will get to know the instructing artist, their background, and tips and tricks of their trade.
