Free Memorial Weekend Concert w/ Dayton Philharmonic / Dayton Ballet
DAYTON PHILHARMONIC & DAYTON BALLET CELEBRATE MEMORIAL WEEKEND AT CARILLON PARK
The Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra with Music Director Neal Gittleman and members of Dayton Ballet will present a free Memorial Day Sunday concert on May 26, 2013 at 7 p.m. as the featured performance of the Dayton Heritage Festival at Carillon Park.
Highlights of the program will include a ballet performance of two musical pieces by John Philip Sousa choreographed by Dayton Ballet dancer Paul Gilliam. The dancers are Halliet Slack, Annalise Woller and Case Bodamer. Baritone William Caldwell will sing selections by Sousa, Aaron Copland and Irving Berlin’s "God Bless America.” The DPO will also perform a salute to our Armed Forces, Tchaikovsky’s immortal "1812 Overture,” complete with cannon shots, "The Stars and Stripes Forever” and more.
The Dayton Heritage Festival, presented by Dayton History and their generous sponsors, offers live music throughout the day including the GoodTime Accordion Band, Todd the Fox, The Wind in the Woods and the Carillon Park Concert Band. Enjoy over 30 historic structures, special family activities and attractions and local food and beverage vendors. Bring a lawn chair or blanket and enjoy music throughout the day, the Dayton Philharmonic at 7 p.m. and the grand finale fireworks display at dusk.
Carillon Park will open at 11 a.m. on May 26 and admission to the Dayton Heritage Festival is free. There is a charge of $5 per car for parking. No carried-in food or beverage permitted. Rain date for the Dayton Heritage Festival and the DPO performance is Monday, May 27.
