6th Annual 5k For the Kids Walk to Benefit CARE House

Sixth Annual 5K & Fitness Walk Friday, May 25, 2012 at 7:00 p.m

5 for the Kids is back and better than ever! Every year since 2007, the Young Lawyers Division of the Dayton Bar Association has taken over Brixx Ice Co. to host the most exciting and fun-filled 5K race in downtown Dayton. This year will be no exception. Mark your calendars: the Sixth Annual 5 for the Kids 5K & Fitness Walk will be held on May 25, 2012 at 7:00 p.m.

Starting at Brixx Ice Co., the 3.1 mile course leads participants past Fifth Third Field and along the Great Miami River before returning to the Brixx "Refueling Station” where they will be greeted with complimentary food and drink, an awards presentation to the top male and female participants, and live entertainment.

The goal of 5 for the Kids is simple: To raise money for the support of CARE House’s daily operations, to raise awareness of the crucial services CARE House provides to our community, and to foster a fun, family-friendly event in downtown Dayton.

Last year, 5 for the Kids raised $10,500 through generous sponsors, race participants, and its Get Behind the Bar fundraisers. Since its inception, 5 for the Kids has raised over $50,000 for CARE House.

We still need your help more than ever! CARE House is embarking on a campaign to build a new children’s advocacy center for Montgomery County, and continues to rely on the funds raised by 5 for the Kids for its operations.

You can be a part of 5 for the Kids in a variety of ways. Whether you run, walk or volunteer on race day or you participate in one our Get Behind the Bar fundraisers, you are helping us reach our goal of supporting CARE House! Whether you convince your employer to become a sponsor or you make your donation, we appreciate every penny!

About CARE House

All proceeds raised by 5 for the Kids, including the 5K race and Get Behind the Bar fundraisers, go directly to CARE House. CARE House, a Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC), is a child-focused, facility-based program in which representatives from many disciplines-law enforcement, child protection, prosecution, mental health, medical and victim advocacy-work together, conducting child interviews and making joint decisions about the investigation, treatment, management and prosecution of child abuse cases.

On an average annual basis, CARE House coordinates agency services for 500 of the most serious cases of child abuse in Montgomery County. A multi-disciplinary team of medical, law enforcement, legal and other staff work together at CARE House when responding to child abuse allegations. This approach serves to protect children from being further traumatized as they traverse the legal system. CARE House provides new stuffed animals to every child victim it serves. CARE House also provides education services for parents and caregivers aimed at prevention. Find out more about CARE House by visiting its website at www.thecarehouse.org or call (937) 512-1670.
