Epiphany Players Drama Ministry presents Why We Tell the Story

The Epiphany Players Drama Ministry will present its 29th summer musical, Why We Tell the Story, July 18-20 at 7:30 p.m., and July 21 at 2:30 p.m. Performances will be held at Epiphany Lutheran Church, 6430 Far Hills Avenue, Centerville, OH, 45459. In celebration of the church’s 60th Anniversary, Epiphany presents a new vision for summer 2019. Featuring the talents of seventy local student and adult actors, the production will be an all-new original musical experience conceived and created by director and choreographer Megan Wean Sears and music director David Brush. Why We Tell the Story celebrates the stories and songs of Broadway’s immense legacy – from theatre’s golden history to the contemporary stories of a new era. From the New York City streets of West Side Story to the high school halls of Dear Evan Hansen – from the stained glass of Notre Dame in The Hunchback of Notre Dame and the alleyways where cats roam to the revolutionary leaders who shaped our country – Epiphany presents a musical theatre adventure like you’ve never experienced before.

Brush shares, "After years of Epiphany presenting some of musical theatre's most iconic, rare, and important productions, it seems only appropriate that - as Epiphany celebrates their own anniversary - that we present yet another unique event. Audiences can expect to hear music never before performed on Epiphany's stage. With a cast of 70, the music and choreography represent the Broadway's rich history - from the Golden Age of 1950's New York to the shows currently playing to sold-out crowds. WHY WE TELL THE STORY is one showstopper after the other - and not to be missed!"

For nearly thirty years, the Epiphany Players Drama Ministry has given families a forum for sharing the core teachings of Christ through theater, bringing people together to support Epiphany Lutheran Church's mission to love Jesus by serving others. Community members of nearly any age can audition for the summer musical, meaning families can rehearse and perform together, creating bonds that last a lifetime.

The Epiphany Players Drama Ministry supports a charity every summer through a portion of the musical's proceeds. This summer, Epiphany’s Storybook Project will be the recipient of those charitable offerings. The Storybook Project Prison Ministry has been visiting prisons since 2002 and has sent more than 15,000 books and recordings to children and relatives of men and women in prison. Beginning at the women's MonDay Community Correctional Institution, the ministry has recently expanded to serve six prison sites in the Dayton region. This ministry is built around the simple idea that incarcerated parents should have the opportunity to read to the children they love. Volunteers from Epiphany record these parents reading a children's book of their choosing, along with a personal message of love for the child. The books and CDs are then mailed to the children so they can hear their mother’s or father’s voice and know that they are loved and missed.
