Celebrate the National Bike to Work Day with MetroParks' annual pancake breakfast at RiverScape MetroPark

Celebrate the National Bike to Work Day at Riverscape in Dayton

Leave your car in the garage and support National Bike to Work Day presented by MVRPC. Ride in on your own or with a group to RiverScape MetroPark for a free pancake breakfast before you head to work. Live music, cycling-related exhibitors and a team challenge are all part of the fun.

Five Rivers MetroParks invites the community to celebrate National Bike to Work Day on Friday, May 17, during its annual Bike to Work Day Pancake Breakfast at RiverScape MetroPark, 237 E. Monument Ave.

From 7 to 9 a.m., hundreds of cycling enthusiasts will gather to enjoy a free, flying pancake breakfast, coffee, live music, cycling-related exhibitors, a photobooth and more during this celebration of human-powered transportation.

"Biking is the most environmentally friendly, inclusive, healthy, and cost-efficient mode of vehicle transportation there is,” said Kelly Bohrer, MetroParks sustainability manager. “Biking, instead of driving, leads to reduced carbon emissions, improved air quality, resource conservation, creates jobs and promotes local community development, and reduces stress and improves mental and physical health. Overall, biking advances our work towards healthier, more resilient communities."

The first 400 cyclists to check in at the Bike to Work Day Pancake Breakfast will receive a free gift from Five Rivers MetroParks. Participants can pre-register at metroparks.org/biketoworkday.

For those who don’t want to ride a considerable distance, participants are welcome to park their cars at a trail access area and ride to RiverScape MetroPark from a closer starting point.

In 2023, nearly 350 cyclists rode 5,110 miles to RiverScape MetroPark.

“The Dayton region is home to 350 miles of paved trails, the nation’s largest paved trail network,” said MetroParks outdoor recreation coordinator Jordan Hart. “Our community has a rich history of being a bike friendly region, which is beneficial for residents and an economic driver.”
