29th Annual Hug the Earth Festival Set for May 10 at Lost Creek Reserve

Get ready for a day packed with outdoor fun, nature discovery and high-energy entertainment at the 29th Annual Hug the Earth Festival, happening Saturday, May 10 from 12 to 5 p.m. at Lost Creek Reserve in Troy.

Hosted by the Miami County Park District, this family-friendly celebration offers something for all ages, from thrilling adventures like a climbing wall, zip line, rocket shoot and tree climbing, to hands-on nature experiences such as fairy/gnome house building, rock and fossil digging and meeting farm animals. Guests can also explore the live butterfly house, join in creative nature crafts and games and visit conservation booths to learn how to care for our planet.

For adventure seekers, the festival offers free outdoor activities that will get your heart racing and your feet off the ground! Scale the rock wall, climb the cargo net, soar along the zip line or climb a tree using ropes and safety harnesses. These exciting, hands-on experiences are fun and completely free for festivalgoers.

The festivities kick off with an Animal Party from 12 to 1 p.m., featuring the Banana Slug String Band and live animal ambassadors from the Columbus Zoo. Sing, dance, and celebrate the Earth in this fun, interactive show that kids won’t want to miss!

At 1:15 and 2:45 p.m., experience the Boomerang Bonanza with Chet Snouffer, seven-time world boomerang champion. Watch as he entertains the crowd with incredible throws, then decorate your own boomerang and learn to throw it like a pro with guidance from this world-class competitor.

At 2 and 3:30 p.m., the sky comes alive with the Flying Falcons demonstration, presented by the Ohio School of Falconry. This educational and awe-inspiring program gives attendees a rare chance to witness the power and grace of free-flying birds of prey. One lucky guest will even have the unforgettable opportunity to wear a leather falconry glove and have a raptor land on their arm!

At 4:15 p.m., the Banana Slug String Band returns for a 40th Anniversary Kids Extravaganza Show, filled with music, dancing, puppetry and plenty of Earth-loving energy!

Throughout the day, visitors can enjoy a variety of free crafts (while supplies last), including making seed bombs, decorating spinning tops and painting their very own pet rock to take home – plus many more creative, hands-on activities designed to spark curiosity and love for the natural world.

Whether you're digging for fossils, zipping across the field or riding the caterpillar train, the Hug the Earth Festival is a day to connect with nature, celebrate our planet and create lasting memories with family and friends. Admission is free, and all are welcome to join this joyful day of environmental celebration and outdoor exploration.
