Letter to my Father

The University of Dayton Index Gallery is excited to present Letter to my Father, a video by artist Jess T. Dugan opening Thursday October 7th and running through November 19th, 2021! Jess T. Dugan is an artist whose work explores issues of identity—particularly gender and sexuality— through photographic portraiture. Letter to my Father is an autobiographical video exploring Jess’s estranged relationship with their father. In the video, Jess reads an undelivered letter, in which the artist tries to come to terms with their difficult and distant relationship. Through the telling of a highly personal story, the video grapples with two fundamental desires, often placed in direct opposition to one another: the need to live authentically and the desire for acceptance from others. UD’s Department of Art and Design hopes you’ll be able to make it out to a public reception and artist talk October 19th from 5:30-6:30pm at ‘The Tank’ located at under the main rotunda of the historic Dayton Arcade. You can enter ‘The Tank’ via it’s Fourth Street entrance located between Main and Ludlow.

University of Dayton’s Index Gallery is located at: 31 South Main Street Dayton Ohio 45402 on the rotunda of the Arcade. Regular gallery hours are Monday through Friday 9-5pm
