Spring Has Sprung at the ARTery Gallery

The ARTery is a large Co-Op Gallery with 16 talented artists and artisans located in the Front Street Building in downtown Dayton.  The Gallery is happy to announce their Visiting Artist of the Month for April is Bley Hack, a Xenia artist who specializes in watercolor collage and oil paintings.  Leonard Williams, who is an exceptional watercolor and acrylic painter, is the gallery’s Highlighted Member Artist of the Month for April.  "Just South of Creede Colorado" is one of Wialliams coveted paintings accompanying this article.  The ARTery hopes you will come meet these artists and see their colorful bodies of work at the Gallery which is open First Friday from 5-9pm and 3rd Sunday from 12-4pm.

Williams shared that his greatest artistic inspirations come from the infinite world of nature - its lands, animals and people.  The artist, Best known for his vibrant watercolor scenes, grew up with a love of nature, a deep concern for the earth and a passion for the American West.  In fact, much of the artist’s work depicts or was inspired by breathtaking scenes from out West with lush grasslands, plush forests and swift rivers laden with large rocks where viewers can almost hear the rushing river as it swiftly carves its paths around them. Williams modestly admitted he has been recognized and awarded in numerous local and national juried shows over his career, and many of his works are owned by local, private and corporate collections across the country.

A native of Dayton, Ohio, Williams spent 25 years as a firefighter for the City of Dayton and spent over 35 years as a sign painter.  Drawing since childhood and primarily a self-taught artist, Williams refined his natural talents over the decades by attending countless painting workshops given by nationally known artists.  His work can be seen in "The New Creative Artist", a book written by artist/author Nita Leland and he is also a featured artist in her newest book "Confident Color".  In addition, his drawings appear in a series of learning and activity books for children in grades one through five produced by Children's Historical Publishing.

The artist taught beginning and intermediate watercolor classes at Rosewood Art Centre in Kettering, Ohio for many years, participating in demos and workshops throughout the surrounding area.  The retired instructor currently resides in the Caesar Creek area of Waynesville, Ohio, where he concentrates full-time on his painting.  The artist is a founding member of the ARTery Gallery at Front Street where he continues to display and sell his work.
