Red Drum Birthing Day Retreat w/ Sarah Monroe

Red Drum

We are birthed in red. It is time to return to it.

Join Sarah Monroe inside the Temple walls for our only Drum Birthing this year!

The color of ecstasy, the color of power, Red is a celebration. For far too long we have shied away from the boldness of life, the embodiment of what sets our souls on fire.

We say, no more.

Come, we have a seat waiting just for you.

Our drum will be the alchemy of your heart and hands, along with the majesty of the deer and the strength of the cedar trees.

The drum head is made with its deer medicine, taps us into our heartspace, and brings forth grace. Deer, even when running from a predator, remains graceful. Deer Spirit acts as a teacher of how to be gentle, determined, and sure even in difficult situations. The medicine of this animal is understated and tender. A drum with deer hide sings a surprisingly deep song and is the lowest maintenance hide we use. It sounds powerful in most heat and humidity conditions when other drums might sound sad.

The frame is Cedar medicine, known to purify and protect, is also celebrated as a symbol of strength and incorruptibility. Cedar goes by the name Long Life Maker and Rich Woman Maker. It is a medicine of strength and perseverance as it is rot-resistant and long-lasting. Many different cultures have used it to support their lives: making canoes, durable clothing, watertight baskets, tools, nets, and medicine from both the wood and leaves.

In this 10-hour mini-retreat, we will make our own 15” Frame Drum and mallet. This event will also include:

-Honoring the medicine of the Deer & Cedar

-Hole Punching the Drum Head

-Lacing the Drum

-Frame Decoration

-Circle work

-Ceremony building

-Meditation

-Breathworking

-Pathworking

-Creative expression (opportunity to paint, draw, write)

-Drum playing, chanting, & more!

We will learn, share, and co-create our sacred instruments together.

The creation of the drum is a meditation and ceremony in itself, an active prayer of the body and mind. As we birth our own drum, may we remember that the heart\drum of our ancestors -- of our global ancestors -- is the same one that is beating inside us today.
