Outdoor Rural Education Center opens
Centerville-Washington History opens a new permanent exhibit building behind the Walton House Museum.
New museum building opens in Centerville
Centerville-Washington History’s new Outdoor Rural Education Center is ready for its ribbon-cutting! This permanent exhibit building, constructed by craftsmen with pioneer-era building methods, evokes the look and feel of an early farm outbuilding. The exhibit inside honors the agricultural roots of our community. Step inside a building held up with hand-hewn beams and look out of windows that were once in the Gerber House at Benham's Grove. Come see a variety of horse-drawn farm implements, people-powered machines, and hand tools. Learn the stories of a few notable farmers from across our community who lived in the past and helped to shape our modern-day life.
The grand opening will take place on June 25 at 2 PM in the backyard of 89 W. Franklin Street. There is also a NEW EXHIBIT about the history of the historical society titled, “60 Years of Preserving History,” inside the Walton House. The Walton House and Chicken House will be open until 4 PM, along with the Outdoor Rural Education Center, during this grand opening and open house event.
