Laser Light Shows @ the Boonshoft
Looking for a one-of-a-kind night out in Dayton? Step into the dome of the Caryl D. Philips Space Theater at the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery, home to Dayton’s only public planetarium, and experience a full-dome spectacle where science, music, and art collide. Throughout November and December, the Museum’s Laser Light Shows return to light up the space theater with color, sound, and pure creativity.
Laser Light Shows at the Boonshoft Planetarium are presented by the museum’s astronomy and production team. These laser performances are visual experiences, and match the rhythm, emotion, and story of the music.
Using cutting-edge laser projection systems and 360° dome technology, familiar tracks are reimagined as stunning visual journeys. When a Pink Floyd guitar solo bends and echoes, waves of color ripple across the dome. When a Taylor Swift chorus hits, the room bursts with pulsing light. When the Stranger Things theme hums its eerie notes, the dome becomes a kaleidoscope of nostalgia and neon.
“Our laser shows are where science and creativity meet,” said Nicholas Arn, Boonshoft Museum Director of Astronomy. “Each performance turns the planetarium into a concert experience like no other in Dayton.”
A Night under the Dome
The Laser Light Show series brings something for everyone. Each weekend in November and December features performances inspired by rock legends, pop icons, and cult-favorite soundtracks. Guests are encouraged to enjoy the museum after-hours before shows, and the Eco Eatery will remain open for grab-and-go options. Bring your friends, grab snacks and beverages, and make it a night to remember.
These shows are more than just entertainment—they highlight the innovative capabilities of the Caryl D. Philips Space Theater, which doubles as both an educational hub for astronomy and a creative space for immersive digital art. The planetarium’s 50-foot dome, powerful projection systems, and precision sound design allow audiences to feel every beat and see every note come alive.
