James Mathes Band with special guest Brian Clouse and Tyler Walton
James Mathes started as a professional entertainer when he was still just a teenager. His inspiration came from starting off as a DJ. James eventually formed a band as a guitarist and song writer. By the time he was 19, he had played hundreds of shows including the Fraze Pavillion in Dayton, OH. By the time he was 21, he was headlining in some of the largest original Rock concerts in the Midwest. In the late nineties and early 2000s, he was the lead guitarist, songwriter, and founding member of the regionally successful band poundSalt. In poundSalt, he performed over 200 shows a year, wrote or co-wrote nearly 50 of their original songs. They recorded multiple albums, and their sound was compared to Sublime, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Primus. After 7 years of performing together, James felt it was time to explore a solo career, he and poundSalt went their separate ways; the band eventually relocating to Tampa, FL, and James moving down to Houston, TX. In Texas, James found new opportunities for his solo career. The Houston Blues Society took notice, and invited James to play multiple times for their Blues Showcases. Performing on some of the same stages as blues greats Stevie Ray Vaughan and Albert King, as well as sharing the stage with blues legends Guitar Shorty, and Alan Haynes. While in Texas, James played many different venues,Honk Tonks and Blues joints, and even traveled to play some shows with poundSalt in Florida. After a few years, the time came to move back to Ohio, where he has played many guest appearances, and formed the group Hot D. The past few years, James has been primarily a solo act, playing original songs spanning the last 15 years, and covering a wide range of music, from Outlaw Country to Rock-n-Roll, and everything in between. His careerhas taken him from Texas to New York, and he continues to entertain where ever he stops to plug in his guitar and step up to the mic.
