Day of the Dead Parade, Festival, Concert in Dayton
The Mexican celebration of life will return in Dayton for the 12th year on Saturday, October 21st. Día De Muertos will be a place to remember our loved ones, eat delicious food, and enjoy a special performance by Maria Reyna.
This FREE, FAMILY FRIENDLY celebration provides a beautiful opportunity to remember and share memories of loved ones who have passed. More information on our pre-parade entertainment will be posted soon!
Pre-parade: At noon the celebration begins across from the Dublin Pub (5th and Wayne Ave). Guests will gather for face painting, food trucks, and live entertainment. The parade will kick off at 2:00 pm and travel west through the Oregon District to the Main Library at 215 E. Third Street (the route is about a half mile). At the library, we will have offrendas (altars) for loved ones, as well as activities for kids. The celebration will conclude with the performance by Maria Reyna at the Eichelberger Forum - starting after the arrival of the parade (around 3:00 pm).
Dia de Muertos is a unique and colorful holiday observed across Mexico, the southwestern United States, Latin America and right here in Dayton, Ohio. During Dia De Muertos people reminisce on the lives of loved ones who have died by creating and sharing ofrendas (Day of the Dead alters), food, sugar skulls, papel picado banners, processions, calaveras (skulls) music, traditional dance while wearing sugar skull painted faces and bright costumes. Note: Día De Muertos is usually celebrated November 1-2
