Community Forum: Interacting with Law Enforcement
Location: Central State University - Dayton Campus (840 Germantown St.)
The "Moving from Words to Action" series of community forums are designed to help citizens productively interact with police officers.
The forum will focus on police policies and procedures, citizen responsibility to comply and citizen rights. Videos, discussions and presentations by the Dayton Police Department and others will be included. The event is presented by the Dayton Human Relations Council and the Thurgood Marshall Law Society in cooperation with the Community-Police Council.
Recent events across this country bring to light the challenges of promoting and maintaining positive community-police relations. The Dayton forum provides an opportunity to begin to build a culture of mutual trust, accountability, fairness and respect.
The Community-Police Council has focused on improving community-police relations since 2011, following its formation by concerned citizens and Commissioner Joey D. Williams.
The February 23 forum follows a similar event held January 20 at Central State University's Dayton campus. Additional community forums will be scheduled in the coming weeks.
