Perspectives: War and Peace

The work’s calm, if calm it is, is hard-won.” That’s how The New York Times describes Vaughan Williams’s response to World War I, following his return home from the front. Lili Boulanger also responds to The Great War in her brief and affecting piece with baritone and our DPO Chorus. A double concerto that features our viola and cello principals, Resilience commemorates the end of World War II, with its final movement an emotional prayer for peace.
