Dayton Philharmonic: Beethoven's Eroica - canceled
Beethoven originally dedicated his Third Symphony to Napoleon Bonaparte…until Napoleon declared himself emperor. Enraged, he ripped the front page from this manuscript and scrubbed out Napoleon’s name. More importantly, the symphony ushered in the Romantic era while brilliantly breaking all the rules. The Eroica has captured the hearts and minds of audiences since 1803 with its themes of struggle and triumphant victory. Guest cellist Mark Kosower joins for Shostakovich’s moving Cello Concerto No. 1.
