Afghan refugees to be welcomed at special event Aug 6
Afghan refugees settling in the Dayton area are invited to a special reception on Saturday, Aug. 6, where they can connect with each other and learn about resources and opportunities available as they establish lives in the local community.
The Afghan Welcome Event will take place at the Dayton Metro Library (215 E. Third St., second floor community room), from 10 a.m. to noon.
The event will be hosted by Welcome Dayton in collaboration with Ohio TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) and Dayton Metro Library.
Between October 2021 and July 2022, 119 Afghan refugees have settled in the Dayton region through the refugee resettlement program of Catholic Social Services of the Miami Valley.
Organizations present with resource information will include Dayton Public Schools, Catholic Social Services, Catholic Charities of Southwestern Ohio, Miami Valley Career Technology Center/Aspire, ABLE (Advocates for Basic Legal Equity), Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine, Dayton Metro Library, and Project Read.
