In conjunction with exhibitions by Michael Reese and Cara Lee Wade, both artists will be at Rosewood Arts Center leading special workshops on alternative photography methods.
“Decoding Polaris” is a series of mixed-media cyanotypes and installations by Atlanta-based artist Michael Reese. Exploring the celestial mapping of routes to freedom used by enslaved people in the American South, Reese creates new interpretations through cyanotypes, a 19th century process of camera-less photography.
Cara Lee Wade uses the camera-less lumen process to create works that reference the symbiotic relationship between nature and humans. With “fossil Poetry”, Wade’s images strike a balance of visual beauty and rhyme. Using traditional black and white paper, she transforms organic matter into shapes and colors that seem to explode off the page.
