Arts & Wellness Workshop
Culture Works, the Dayton Region’s local arts agency and united arts fund, will be connecting the artist community with dozens of business and civic leaders through a special two-day workshop focused on the healing and therapeutic power of the arts.
Sponsored by Montgomery County, with additional support from CareSource, the Arts & Wellness Workshop will take place on Tuesday, April 12 and Wednesday, April 13 at the historic Dayton Arcade. Day One will be focused on working with artists and training them to think about the therapeutic uses of their skills and talents and then applying that knowledge in a professional setting. Day Two will be aimed towards the business community and provide tangible examples of how visual, musical, and movement-based arts can improve employee morale and create positive connections with others. Thanks to generous funder support, these workshops are offered at no cost to attendees.
“We have many talented artists in the Dayton community who have a passion for helping others,” noted Dorie Watts, Director of Program Operations & Advocacy for Culture Works. “And we have business and community leaders who want the best for their employees, customers, and clients. This workshop is an excellent way to bring these two parts of our community together to address the physical and mental wellness needs so many people are facing right now.”
Day One of the Workshop will be led by Ashley Hall, founder of Longy School of Music of Bard College’s innovative career coaching program, along with accredited Art, Music, and Movement therapists from the Cleveland Clinic’s Arts & Medicine program and the Dayton region. Day Two will be led by Dr. Tamara Shella and Dr. Debbie Bates from the Cleveland Clinic Arts & Medicine program alongside music therapist Sarah Miller, movement therapist Anson Lampe, Ashley Hall, and artists Misty Brown and Joyce McCartney.
Due to the nature of this workshop, full day attendance is required for each day. A light breakfast and full lunch will be provided to attendees.
