New American and global cuisine coming to Miamisburg

Watermark the latest night spot for growing entertainment district
Chef Maria Walusis, owner of Nibbles Restaurant, announces Watermark, her new venture featuring New American and global cuisine, at 20 South 1st Street. The new restaurant and lounge are slated to open Summer 2017, and construction is underway.

Building on two years of great success at Nibbles, Walusis invites her loyal following to join her for this next step on what has become a culinary journey. Well-known for her creative takes on classic fare, as well as introducing diners to unusual ingredients and combinations, Watermark will continue the rotating ‘Chef’s Whim’ menu concept while adding on a permanent menu of favorite dishes sure to please her biggest fans.

“I want my guests to have an unforgettable experience, enjoying new dishes and flavors as well as fresh takes on familiar favorites,” says Chef Walusis, who will also continue to operate the Nibbles Catering service out of the new kitchen.

Maria’s husband, Eric Walusis, serves as Beverage Program and Front-of-House Manager. He will continue their award-winning tradition of craft cocktails while adding draft beer and a special lounge menu of small plates to satisfy guests in the new 40-seat lounge area. The modern lounge will feature large community tables and contemporary soft-seating surrounding a horseshoe-shaped bar. “We will be offering special events and programs such as cocktail classes and tastings, food pairings, and more,” says Eric.

City of Miamisburg Downtown Development Coordinator, Katie Frank, applauds the growing number of new restaurants and other nightlife venues choosing to locate in the historic downtown. “We have two breweries, several music venues, a theater, cafes, and foodie-pleasing options from bar food to fine dining. It truly is an entertainment destination that is both thriving and growing, which more people from the Dayton-area – and beyond – are discovering each day.”

Chef Walusis, a Dayton native and graduate of The Ohio State University, has trained under and partnered with leading chefs in both Dayton and Cincinnati. Her pursuit of a culinary career grew out of her love for entertaining, and her natural ability as a host has established a reputation for warmth and superior service. Says Walusis, “I love being a part of the diverse and vibrant Dayton-area dining community. There are so many excellent chefs, many of whom also happen to be women. I think Dayton boasts a unique offering, something that you just don’t see in too many cities.”

A modern bar accented with a contemporary Spanish tile front will form the centerpiece for the lounge, and the dining room will feature modern accents calling to mind Miamisburg’s river heritage and the restaurant’s namesake, the 1913 high-water mark sign which adorns the front of the 100-plus-year-old Erie Canal Building. In addition to dinner service, the new venue will feature a 48-seat meeting/party room, fully equipped with audio-visual support and well-suited to business clientele as well as for private parties, rehearsal dinners, and more.

Watermark, located at 20 South 1st Street in Miamisburg, is opening this Summer and will serve dinner Monday through Saturday, with hours from 5:00 pm to 11 pm on weeknights, and open until 12:00 midnight on Friday and Saturday.
