DAYTON, OHIO (Jan. 24, 2017) Five Rivers MetroParks is taking the next step in implementing its 10-year comprehensive master plan by developing park site master plans for individual parks. To engage citizens in the planning process, MetroParks is hosting open houses in February and March, as well as inviting the public to provide feedback online or by calling Five Rivers MetroParks.

This is the second phase of park site master plan open houses, the first of which occurred last fall and solicited community input regarding MetroParks’ conservation areas and Eastwood, Englewood, Aullwood Garden and Wegerzyn Gardens MetroParks.

“We collected important feedback from the public during the first phase of site master plan open houses and look forward hearing from the community during the second phase,” said Carrie Scarff, Five Rivers MetroParks chief of planning and projects. “The park site master plans are based on community input, much like the comprehensive master plan. These plans will consider and identify protected open space, habitats, amenities and potential uses and improvements for each location, as well as estimated capital and operating budgets for those uses and improvements.”

Members of the community can provide feedback during one or more of the open houses scheduled through the beginning of March. Open houses include afternoon and evening sessions, the first from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and the second from 6 to 8 p.m. People are welcome to stop in at any time to share their thoughts and ideas for each park or conservation area.

MONDAY, FEB. 6: DISCUSS POSSUM CREEK METROPARK

  •       Both open houses will be held at Possum Creek MetroPark’s education building: 4790 Frytown Road

THURSDAY, FEB. 23: DISCUSS GERMANTOWN AND TWIN CREEK METROPARKS and the UPPER TWIN CONSERVATION AREA

  • Both open houses will be held at the Germantown MetroPark park office: 6675 Conservancy Road

THURSDAY, MARCH 9: DISCUSS CARRIAGE HILL METROPARK

  •    Both open houses will be held at the Carriage Hill MetroPark Visitor Center: 7800 E. Shull Road

Those who cannot attend scheduled open houses are invited to complete online surveys at metroparks.org/planning. Feedback also can be provided to Five Rivers MetroParks by contacting planning manager Eric Sauer at 937-275-PARK (7275) or email@metroparks.org by March 31, 2017.

“Community input was invaluable to the development of the 10-year comprehensive master plan, which was completed in 2015,” said Becky Benná, Five Rivers MetroParks executive director. “All this work is part of Five Rivers MetroParks’ commitment to create great parks where everyone in our community can experience the outdoors and nature. Five Rivers MetroParks is committed to using citizens’ input as the guide for future planning and for ensuring MetroParks continues to offer the world-class natural areas, parks, facilities and programs our community deserves.”
