Back to School Sales Tax Holiday 2020

Whether your kids return to a classroom or not, they're gonna need school supplies. The State of Ohio provides a permanent sales tax holiday on the first weekend of August! This year, the holiday will start at midnight Friday, August 7, 20 and ends Sunday, August 9, 2020 at 11:59 p.m.

During the holiday, the following items are exempt from sales and use tax:

  • Clothing priced at $75 per item or less (if an item costs $76 it doesn't qualify)
  • School supplies priced at $20 per item or less; and
  • School instructional material priced at $20 per item or less.

Items used in a trade or business are not exempt under the sales tax holiday.

If you have any questions regarding the sales tax holiday, you can email or call 1-800-304-3211.
