The 2023 sales tax holiday on back to school clothes, supplies, and instructional materials in Ohio is Aug 4-6.

Back to School Sales Tax Holiday 2023

Whether your kids return to a classroom or not, they're gonna need school supplies. The State of Ohio provides a permanent sales tax holiday on the first weekend of August! This year, the holiday will start at midnight Friday, August 4, 20 and ends Sunday, August 6, 2023 at 11:59 p.m.  

During the holiday, the following items are exempt from sales and use tax:

  • An item of clothing priced at $75 or less;
  • An item of school supplies priced at $20 or less; and
  • An item of school instructional material priced at $20 or less.

Items used in a trade or business are not exempt under the sales tax holiday.
