Fort 5k

In 2009, Melissa Fortener McLaughlin may have lost her battle to breast cancer, but her positive spirit lives on in her family, friends, and community. This is an annual event in Melissa's honor including a 5k and balloon launch.

 

Proceeds from this event go to the Fairmont High School Girls Basketball program. Melissa graduated from Fairmont in 1996. She played basketball, volleyball and was the United Student Body Commissioner of Communications. She was also on the Flyer staff and Yearbook Staff.

 

She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2003 when she was 25, and died two days before her 31st birthday.
