Dayton Podfest offers five live local podcasts, along with performances by three local bands for only $5 admission price. Two food trucks, Pa’s Pork and Wicked ‘Wich of Dayton, along with craft beer, will be available for purchase by patrons.
This inaugural gathering of local podcasts was created by Izzy Rock, host/producer for Gem City Podcast and Tales From The Hardside, along with Josh Moody, co-host of Completely Straight podcast, and Joe Gill, host of Bottom of the Bottle podcast.
The five local podcasts that are participating in the live podcast event include: The Gem City Podcast, Completely Straight, Bottom of the Bottle, the Fresh Dope Podcast, and the Learning Leaders Show with Ryan Hawk.
Live music kicks off at 11pm with exciting local bands Tino, Grenades!?, and Nightbeast. Visual art will be also be on display.
Although fairly unknown by most, podcasting is beginning to become a household name with shows like Serial, Dan Carlin’s Hardcore History, and the Joe Rogan Experience. In August 2004, former MTV VJ Adam Curry launched his show Daily Source Code. This is believed to be the first podcast.
In July 2013, Apple reported that there were a billion subscriptions spread across 250,000 unique podcasts in more than 100 languages, and that more than 8 million episodes have been published in the iTunes Store to date. No doubt about it: A billion podcast subscriptions is a massive number.
Today, there is a podcast or two for nearly any subject you can think of. Comedians like Joe Rogan and Marc Maron have used the platform to garner massive followings. Joe Rogan estimates he gets 1 million downloads per episode. Locally, this medium is growing and we are showcasing our local talent through this event.
Please come out and support this new movement locally on Friday, June 3, 2016 at Yellow Cab Tavern.
