"A Midsummer Night's Dream" by William Shakespeare in South Park Aug 18, 19 & 20
Shakespeare in South Park launches its 14th season with one of the Bard's best-loved comedies, "A Midsummer Night's Dream." Lysander and Hermia flee Athens into the forest to escape Hermia being forced to wed Demetrius. Demetrius follows, himself pursued by Helena, who loves him. In the same forest, a group of unlettered tradesmen gather to secretly rehearse a play they hope to perform at the Duke of Athens' upcoming marriage. The young lovers and the would-be actors become--mistakenly and intentionally--unwitting victims of a battle waged between King Oberon and Queen Titania in the invisible fairy kingdom. Will it all sort out into a happy ending?
Bring a chair or Blanket to South Park Green for Shakespeare-in-the-park, a truly unique outdoor theatre experience! The show is free, but donations are cheerfully and most gratefully accepted. In case of inclement weather, we will perform at Hope Lutheran Church, a very short distance from the park. Ample free parking. Restrooms are available.
