Holiday Tree Headed for Courthouse Square this Saturday

The Dayton Holiday Festival's tree selection committee, headed by the City of Dayton, has chosen a 45-foot-tall tree to be lit on Montgomery County's Courthouse Square during the traditional Grande Illumination ceremony on Friday, Nov. 28.

The tree currently is located at the residence of Keith and Anne Yarger of Huber Heights. It will be moved to Courthouse Square, located at the northwest corner of Third and Main streets in downtown Dayton.

The City of Dayton is supplying personnel and equipment to cut the tree. PSC Crane & Rigging is donating the use of their crane and equipment to transport the tree to Courthouse Square.

“We have watched the tree grow with our children and we are just so glad somebody else will get a chance to enjoy it like we have,” Anne Yarger said of her family’s decision to donate the tree.

Every year, people from throughout the Miami Valley nominate their trees for the starring role in the Grande Illumination ceremony. The Grande Illumination Tree Lighting will be held from 4-9 p.m. on the day after Thanksgiving (Friday, Nov. 28), and the tree lighting ceremony will take place on Courthouse Square at 7:45 p.m. The Dayton Children's Parade Spectacular in Lights will immediately follow the tree lighting.

The month-long Dayton Holiday Festival is presented by the Downtown Dayton Partnership, City of Dayton, Montgomery County and the Virginia W. Kettering Dayton Holiday Festival Fund. Sponsors include BIG 106.5 FM, Time Warner Cable Media, Hollywood Gaming – Dayton Raceway, Fifth Third Bank, Miami-Jacobs Career College, Dayton Power & Light, CareSource and B94.5 Hot Country.
