Hare: Dah Gimp

Hash Trail: Start the new year right and come out to the first hash of 2026!!! Gimp got super special privilege for us to hash on Dayton VA grounds. We haven't hashed in this area since 2014!

Expect and medium length trail ~4.5 miles.

This place has a lot of great history. It was one of the first of three VA medical centers opened in 1867 to help treat the tens of thousands of Civil War veterans that were too severely injured to go home to their families after the war. Abraham Lincoln signed the bill in 1865 right before he was tragically assassinated allocating funding to create the VA centers. A National Cemetery was also established on the grounds. Close to 60,000 veterans are buried here. The first burial was 1867 for a Civil War solder who soon died after the medical center was opened. There are also graves for veterans of almost all the wars including the War of 1812, Mexican War, Spanish American War, War I & II, Korean War, Vietnam, etc. Five Medal of Honor veterans are also buried here. It's a pretty impressive and somber sight to see if you ever drive on West Third Street and go past the National Cemetery.

Hashing in General: This is a fun run or hike where you will follow a trail of flour not knowing exactly where it will lead. One or more beer/water stops along the way! In hashing you'll will be running/walking as part of a group. The faster runners will be out ahead looking for flour marks on the ground trying to figure out which way the trail route goes. Sometimes they go the wrong way which allows the slower runners/walkers to catch up and even get ahead. This allows everyone to go at their own pace and stay together as a group.

Dogs: Allowed on trail, but leash is required. Must be friendly to people and other dogs.

Children: Adults only for first-time hashers, since many of us do drink beer. 😋 Otherwise 18+.

On-After: West Social Tap & Table, 1100 W Third St, Dayton, OH 45402

Things to bring/wear:

  • Whistle you never blow
  • Hash mug or a free plastic cup. DH4 hash mugs on sale for $16!
  • Change of clothes and shoes
  • Camping chair
  • New hashers!
