Dragons Host Midsummer Classic
Come out to the ballpark to cheer on Dragons' players and watch minor league baseball's version of the midsummer classic.
The Dayton Dragons will host the Midwest League's 49th annual All-Star Game this Tuesday, June 18.
The hometown team has five players named to the East squad: 2011 first-round pick, pitcher Robert Stephenson, outfielder Jesse Winker, infielder Zach Vincej and pitchers Drew Cicso and Sal Romano. The Dragons hosted its first Midwest All-Star game in 2001, also had five players named to the team that year.
The game itself will be a great opportunity to see tomorrow's superstars; the league's all-star game has hosted multiple future MLB MVP's including Miguel Cabrera, Albert Pujols and Justin Morneau.
Before the game, the Midwest League will hold a Home Run Derby, with four minor league participants, one being Dragon's outfielder Jesse Winker. Winker has crushed 8 home runs, and produced 40 RBI during his first season in Dayton.
Two Dayton little leaguers, will also join the competition, one on each team alongside minor leaguers. 11-year-old Ethan Tedder of the Beavercreek Sox, and 12-year-old Devin Dudley of the Gem City Throwbacks will compete alongside the Midwest All-Stars with a temporary fence set to the size of a little league park.
Gates open at 5:00 p.m. with the home run derby starting at 5:30 p.m. and the all-star game at kicking off at 7:30 p.m.
