Final weekend for Azra's Mediterranean Cuisine
Azra Kaurin from Azra's Mediterranean Cuisine at 2nd Street Market is retiring. Kaurin's final weekend as a vendor at the market will be this upcoming weekend, Friday, Feb. 17 through Sunday, Feb. 19.
Known for her fresh, homemade soups, sandwiches, mediterranean salads, cabbage rolls over mashed potatoes and much more (including the seemingly never-ending array of tasty baked goods), Azra has been a longtime favorite at the market. There's little doubt she will be greatly missed.
"We want to give a heartfelt thanks to this amazing city!" Kaurin recently posted on social media. "Dayton’s has given us love for over two decades. Our loyal customers have become more like family. It’s so hard to say goodbye!"
A native of Bosnia, Kaurin came to the United States in 1996 with her family after the signing of the Dayton Accords, a peace agreement that put an end to the Bosnian War.
"You have a cultural shock when you come from Europe and start life here," Kaurin recently told the Dayton Daily News. "It’s something very different. I didn’t speak English well."
Settling into her new life in the U.S., Kaurin first began her business selling cookies and baklava at a farmers market in Miami County. After becoming one of the first tenants at 2nd Street Market, she began serving dishes passed down from her family in Bosnia. The rest, as they say, is history.
If you'd like to experience Azra's Mediterranean Cuisine one final time (including her famous Baklava!), the restaurant will be open 11 am to 3 pm on Friday, 9 am to 3 pm on Saturday, and 11 am to 3 pm on Sunday.
