The public is invited to celebrate the Winter Solstice at SunWatch Village on Sunday, December 21. Begin the shortest day of the year with a breathtaking sunrise at 7:54 am and join in welcoming the return of longer days and brighter skies

☀️ At sunrise, you will observe an ancient astronomical alignment. The Center Pole at the heart of the village casts its shadow directly onto the Solstice House on the western side. This inspiring moment offers a powerful connection to the past and a unique way to welcome the winter season. Across many cultures, the Winter Solstice is a time of celebration, often symbolizing renewal, rebirth, and the return of light after the darkest part of the year. For the SunWatch villagers, this alignment may have held spiritual or ceremonial significance. ❄️

☕ Admission to SunWatch Village (2301 West River Rd, Dayton, OH 45417) is FREE from 7:00 am to noon that day. Regular admission applies from noon to 4:00 pm. Guests enjoying the sunrise celebration are invited to warm up with complimentary coffee and donuts/pastries. We look forward to sharing this extraordinary event with you! 🍩

Sunwatch Indian Village - SunWatch is a 13th century American Indian village located along the Great Miami River in Dayton, OH. Archaeological excavations from 1971-1988 revealed a planned, stockaded Fort Ancient period settlement with astronomical alignments.
