Winter Reading Challenge
Pop into the West Alexandria Branch and sign up for the Winter Reading Challenge. There are programs and activities planned for all ages, including Children's Winter Reading programs, Teen and Adult Winter Reading Bingo, Storytime, Weekly Display Contests, Popcorn Trivia and more!
Children Winter Reading Program:
When you sign up for our Winter Reading program, you will be given a time log sheet. For every 15 minutes of reading, color a popcorn kernel. Once you complete an hour of reading, visit the library to receive a coin. Redeem your coins at the library for prizes. For every 5 hours you read, you will also receive a raffle entry.
Teen and Adult Winter Reading Bingo sponsored by West Alexandria Friends of the Library:
When you sign up for winter reading, you will be given your choice of bingo cards. You are entered into our weekly drawing for each straight line bingo you complete. Everyone who completes a Bingo is included in our grand prize drawing. If you complete the whole board, a coverall, you will receive a bonus entry into our grand prize drawing and your choice of a candy bar. Each title can only be used once. Categories include books, music, movies, fun-size books, variety, fun-size movies, and fun things to do.
Winter Storytime:
Storytimes will be held every Wednesday at 1 pm Wednesday, January 5th – February 23rd, 2022. Each storytime will include a book, snack, and a craft or activity. Warning, we do sometimes get messy. Please advise us if your child has any food allergies and will be attending to provide an alternate snack for them if needed.
Weekly Display Contest sponsored by West Alexandria Friends of the Library - Open to All Ages:
Can you guess the theme of our central display shelf? Each Monday, we will place several library items on the display shelf that have something in common. Each weekly contest runs from Monday to Saturday. Everyone who gets the answer correct will receive a small prize and enter our weekly "grand prize" drawing. We will post a list of all the winners the following Monday. This contest is open to everyone.
