Sedan Nuclear Test & the Plowshare Program in the 1960s

Dr. Bowman will discuss the Atomic Energy Commission's (AEC) "Plowshare Program and the Sedan Nuclear Test."  The Museum is located at 1075 Mound Rd., in Miamisburg, Ohio.  His presentation will include viewing the historic movie,"Plowshare," prouced in 1973 by the AEC outlining the promise of the Plowshare Program to facilitate major constructions with minimal release of radioactivity.  It also highlights a thermonuclear explosion of the Sedan device in 1962 to generate the largest crater created at the Nevada Test Station during the U.S. nuclear testing series.  Dr. Bowman will also do a brief slide presentation of Mound Laboratory's involvement in the Sedan Test and a summary of the environmental consequences resulting in the explosion.  For more details call (937) 353-4457.  The presentation is free and is open to the public.
