Chalk About It Chalk Art Festival

Chalk About It DaytonThe streets of The Greene will once again come alive as artists create living art using only pastel chalk to bring awareness to senior citizen mental health needs in our community.

The chalk art festival day’s events will include fun for the whole family including a Kids Activity Area, a Raffle with fabulous Prizes from our friends at The Greene, and an Evening Block Party!

All Day event – 10am – 10pm

  • Artists at Work – Vote for your Favorite Chalk Masterpiece
  • Kid’s Activities – including Chalk Street Painting and a Scavenger Hunt
  • Evening Block Party with a Beer Garden and Live Music

Watching art come to life is considered a performance art and has an immediacy that gives every piece a uniqueness that can never be truly duplicated. Other activities include a family scavenger hunt, a kid’s chalking area, and a block party in the evening.

The event will support Life Essentials’ unique and specialized programs that enable seniors and people living with mental illness to have a greater quality of life.

Street painting (chalking) has its roots in 16th Century Italy, when artists who adorned the churches were finished with a project, they would take to the streets and recreate the art in chalk for a living. Nowadays, images can be of anything, ranging from reproductions of great masterpieces to photos to 3D anamorphic art that tricks the viewer.

Using only pastel chalks (which are environmentally friendly), artists transform the streets and sidewalks into living art. Watching art come to life is considered a performance art and has an immediacy that gives every piece a uniqueness that can never be truly duplicated. There are many street painting festivals in the United States (mainly in Florida and California) and also in Europe, Australia and Asia.

Proceeds from ‘Chalk About It’ will benefit Life Essentials' unique and specialized programs that enrich lives by educating and inspiring clients to be in charge of their mental and physical health.

The dedicated staff at Life Essentials provide advocacy services that enhance lives by enabling seniors and people living with mental illness to have a greater quality of life.
