The Boonshoft Museum of Discovery Hosts Annual Educator Open House

The Boonshoft Museum of Discovery announces the 2019 Annual Educator Open House Thursday, August 29, from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Educators will have an opportunity to explore what the Boonshoft Museum, SunWatch Indian Village, and Fort Ancient Earthworks and Nature Preserve have to offer teachers and students for the 2019-2020 school year. Registration is FREE with identification.

Teachers from all walks of life will be introduced to museum-driven programs that can benefit their students. They will also be invited to take on the role of student, and learn interesting and effective techniques to bring hands-on science learning directly to their classroom.

Museum educators will be on hand to demonstrate new class options, as well as ensure that educators have all the information they need to schedule programs.

Our staff will introduce you to our menu of programming for the 2019-2020 school year and provide you with some interesting and effective ways to bring STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) to your classroom.

“We know that teachers work hard using often-limited resources to make sure that their students succeed, and our school programs are designed to support them in reaching that goal,” notes Dawn Kirchner, Vice President, Education at the Boonshoft Museum. “By using museum resources ranging from our newly-renovated lab and Science Theater to the planetarium and our 1.8 million-item collection, our experienced educators can help reinforce those classroom lessons with memorable, hands-on learning experiences.”

The evening will feature a variety of program samplings from our sites. Meet our professional educators, experience the Museum, learn about our Workshops and Exhibits-to-Go programming, and much more at this FREE evening of exploration.

Highlights of the 2019 Open House will include:

•    Program samples from the Boonshoft Museum, Fort Ancient, and SunWatch
•    Grant application assistance
•    Complimentary wine and hors d’oeuvres
•    CEU credit certificate

The Open House will also feature community partners in education:

• Think TV
• Lakeshore Learning
• Montgomery County Solid Waste District
• Science Education Council Ohio (SECO)
