A new shop opens today at the Dayton Mall, and it's the kind of place you'll want to bring a paintbrush - and a bottle of wine.

Pinots Palette isn't you average bar, and it isn't your average art studio or restaurant. Actually, it's all of them. It's a business which first set up shop in Houston in 2009, and has since grown to include about three dozen spots around the country. The one opening in Miamisburg next month is set to be the concept's first spot in Ohio, so I wasn't surprised that I had never heard of the place.

Pinots Palette

The new owner, Karen Doggett described it to me as a place where you or a group of friends could enjoy and evening together. It works like this: you choose from a selection of paintings to paint during the evening, in a class with a group of other people or free-form. There's a bar on the site where beer and wine are available spirits to add to the warmth of the evening, as well as some background music to lighten the mood.

You're also free to bring your own snacks or food, and in doing so, it really tops off the evening.

"It's a different kind of night out," Doggett says. "I fell in love with it, and I wanted it to be a part of Dayton."

If you're thinking a bigger group might like this idea, Pinots Palette will have you covered. A private group party room will be available, which Doggett said is perfect for everything from girls' nights out to parties and more.

Pinots Palette will open for its first night on August 15. A list of classes will be listed on its website soon. To learn more, go to http://www.pinotspalette.com/Miamisburg.
