DPAA presents world premiere ballet- The Legend of Sleepy Hollow

Dayton Performing Arts Alliance presents the world premiere of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, Oct. 28-30, 2022, at the historic Victoria Theatre.

Halloween weekend: The Legend of Sleepy Hollow Oct. 28—30

Dayton Performing Arts Alliance opens Dayton Ballet’s 85th Anniversary Season with the world premiere of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, Oct. 28—30, 2022, at the historic Victoria Theatre. Tickets are on sale now and start at $5. For tickets, call 937-228-3630 or visit daytonperformingarts.org/tickets.

Dayton Ballet Artistic Director Karen Burke has created an eerie, athletic ballet to the tale of Washington Irving’s classic story, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. Burke’s version adds a backstory to the Headless Horseman with a unique twist that connects him with Ichabod Crane. The beautiful Katrina befriends Ichabod, and her jealous admirer Brom Bones vows to rid Sleepy Hollow of him and the Headless Horseman. Set to a brand-new original score by local composer Austin Jaquith, Sleepy Hollow features live music with Dayton Philharmonic under the baton of Maestro Neal Gittleman. Costume design is by Lyn Baudenistel, and light design is by Joe Beumer. Audiences are encouraged to come in costume.

“This is a wonderful way to experience telling a well-known story! “said Karen Russo Burke, Dayton Ballet Artistic Director. “The dancers communicate the story through their athleticism and artistic range. There are also dancers from Dayton Ballet’s second company, DBII, and several of our Dayton Ballet School students that are a part of the storytelling. Combine this great cast with Austin Jaquith’s original score performed by Dayton Philharmonic, and The Legend of Sleepy Hollow makes a perfect Halloween weekend.”

Part of DPAA’s 2022-2023 Dayton Ballet Series, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, is sponsored by Emerson Roofing.  Dayton Ballet’s season continues throughout the 2022-2023 season with: The Nutcracker (Dec. 9-11, 16-18, Schuster Center); 85th Diamond Anniversary (Feb. 10-12, Victoria Theatre); and Peter Pan (April 21-23, Schuster Center). Evening performances begin at 7:30 p.m., with Saturday (Nutcracker only) and Sunday matinees starting at 2:30 p.m.
