Made in Dayton: Esther Price Candy

Esther Price developed her passion for candy making when she learned to make fudge in home economics class. She shared her home-made chocolates with her co-workers at the downtown Dayton department store where she worked. Those co-workers then urged her to make candy for them to buy. Word of her delicious candy spread and soon she was selling it to department stores and businesses.

Esther insisted on using only the finest ingredients available. Today, more than 80 years later, the Esther Price tradition of old-fashioned quality is ensured by making all chocolates at a single location on Wayne Avenue in Dayton, Ohio. Many chocolates are still made by hand, just like in Esther's day! The gold box and red ribbon ensure that you’ll easily recognize the Esther Price brand.

Esther Price Candies produces about one million boxes of candy per year! I wish I could claim just one favorite, but I love both light and dark chocolates along with all the different creams, caramels, and barks. You have to try the Esther Price Chocolate covered Mike-Sell's Groovy Potato Chips, a perfect union of two favorite local Dayton foods and a delightful way to satisfy sweet and salty cravings. *Available October through March, or while supplies last.

Esther Price has 4 stores in the area: on Wayne Ave. and Woodman Dr. in Dayton, a north location in Clayton, and south in Centerville. Customers can also place online orders 24 hours a day (www.EstherPrice.com) or pick up Esther Price in Dayton area grocery stores.
