How Concerned Should You Be About Home PC Security?

Is your computer running slower than expected?  Is it hanging unexpectedly and is your little network icon continuously lit up?  If so, you may have an infection on your computer.  Yes, that's right, you may have a computer virus, spyware, or other unwanted program running on your computer.

At Computer Troubleshooters we've noticed a big increase in the number and severity of malware infections in the last year or so.  There's not only more of it, it's more sophisticated, it's more destructive, and much of it is targeted at stealing your personal information.

Here are some things to look for to determine if your PC has been attacked and may be infected. If your computer exhibits the following, it could be infected and your information could be at risk.

Top Five Symptoms of an Infected Computer

  1. Your computer takes a long time to boot
  2. Simple things take a long time
  3. Random error "popups" display
  4. High network activity, CPU, and/or memory usage
  5. Your internet browser takes you places you didn't ask it to

These are just a few symptoms that you can be on the lookout for that can indicate a virus or other malware on your computer.  If you'd like to learn more about this and a whole bunch more regarding PC Security, plan to attend the free PC Security Workshop at the Centerville Library on February 5th at 6:30 pm. If you’d like to attend, please register for our Security Workshop. If your computer has any of these symptoms, call Computer Troubleshooters and we can help you.
