When Lucky Star meets Orchid Pizza

Lucky Star Brewery & Orchard Pizza

Great things happen when two people with similar visions collaborate together.   Both, Lucky Star Brewery and Orchid Pizza have been in business for one year and have joined forces to offer the Dayton Beer scene something new.  The Orchid Pizza food truck will be offering wood fired pizzas at the brewery every other Saturday starting August 1.  Chauncey Johnson, owner of Orchid Pizza met Lucky Star's Glen Perrine during a brew tour stop and a friendship ensued. This friendship resulted in a collaboration between the two.

Chauncey Johnson has always had a passion for pizza making and decided to take the plunge and purchase a wood fired oven.   After extensive training, Chauncey is now making his own pizza dough and creating some tasty pizzas using the highest quality ingredients.   His idea was to not make the typical pizza that is ordered from chain restaurants, but to provide the customer with something different.   His philosophy is less is more and demonstrates this by only using a minimal amount of ingredients on a pizza.   This philosophy allows Chauncey to emphasize the flavor of each ingredient and provide the customer with a simple, yet sophisticated tasting pizza.

Lucky Star Brewery

Lucky Star Brewery has a goal as well, which is to encourage people to try the local craft beer scene.   Owner Glen Perrine is targeting an audience made up of non-craft beer drinkers and women who are interested in trying craft beer.  Glen was burnt out working as a vice-president in corporate America and decided it was time to try something new.   He learned the skillful art of brewing beer and decided that he wanted to open a brewery in his hometown of Miamisburg, Ohio.

Glen wanted to find the perfect building that represented the old classic style breweries that once inhabited Dayton.   He settled on a building constructed in 1840 that produced tractors and farm implements before becoming a tobacco processing warehouse.  Tobacco was dried on the upper floors in the building and shipped on the Erie Canal which was located directly behind the building.   The very wood that was used in the tobacco drying rooms was used as lumber to build the bar and is used in the woodwork inside the building.

Lucky Star Brewery - The Crowler

The brewery has a casual and inviting atmosphere with pink walls (inspired by Glen's wife, Ana), a great music playlist and some crazy looking department store mannequins.   Earlier this summer, the brewery opened up its spacious patio and as well as a party room which houses a pool table and air hockey table and is available for private parties.   The brewery also offers small plates of food such as tacos, chips and salsa, homemade guacamole, and quesadillas.

As their collaboration unfolds, we are expecting exciting things from Chauncey and Glen in the next few months. Orchid Pizza is always working on new flavors and hopefully the Kwean B pizza (bacon, Brussel sprouts, and honey) will make an appearance on the menu soon.   Glen also has a few things in the works such as the Crowler (above left), a machine that houses your choice of beer in a 32 oz. can and is sealed right in front of your eyes as well as always creating new beers.  Stop in Lucky Star and try a local craft beer while indulging in a locally produced wood-fired pizza.
