Seven Delicious Restaurant Week Specials

Tired of the cold? This week you’ll have a chance to warm up to a few new dishes in town, courtesy of Miami Valley Restaurant Association’s annual Winter Restaurant Week.

Restaurant Week 2015The annual chance for local restaurateurs to showcase their stuff returns with Winter Restaurant Week 2015. And while the popular week has spawned two annual events, it’s clear that the restaurateurs in the dozens of participating locations aren’t close to running out of ideas.  As Christine Hoover, manager at Figlio told me, “We always push ourselves to try something new.”

Hundreds attended the opening sneak peak last Wednesday as several top names in Dayton food showed off their stuff. Here are 7 of my favorite dishes you can find in town this week:

  1. Basils on Market (photo #1 right) – New to restaurant week, these folks showed off a sweet Asian Braised Short Rib over Fresh Lo Mien with crisp vegetables. Basils is relatively new to Troy so seeing them taking a place in restaurant week is exciting!
  2. The Caroline (photo #2 right) – Ever the good representation of Troy, they featured an espresso Rubbed Sirloin Steak. It’s savory, with a bourbon glaze that gives a bit of a kick to the meat. Delicious!
  3. Coco's Bistro – Coco’s always shows off a salad, and this time they brought a winter spinach Salad: topped with goat cheese, pecans and an almost floral, Blackberry Vinaigrette.
  4. The Dock Food & Spirits – Lobster Bisque is what they’re known for, and this time I also got to try a creamy Crab Dip with House Made Pita Chips – the crab dip is extra creamy and the crunch of the chips evens it out wonderfully.
  5. Dominique's Bistro (photo #3 right) – Prime Rib Sliders cooked rare and a Mississippi Mud Cake with a luxurious chocolate sauce and a few marshmellows that make the whole cake a chocolate lover’s dream.
  6. Salar Restaurant - Aji Amarillo Chicken Risotto, another masterful creation of this Oregon District favorite. It’s cheesy, and if you know risotto, you’ll find the curry a delightful addition.
  7. Station House - Thai Chicken leg, braised until fall-apart tender, and Caesar Salad with a nice garlic and parmesan cheese topping.
