It's hard to believe that any restaurant would be able to match the apparent class and sophistication of the former Sidebar restaurant, but Salar has risen to the challenge.

Salar

A lot of times I'll sit and think of the types of restaurants I want to see open in Dayton and I'm ashamed to say that Peruvian somehow didn't cross my mind, however now that Salar is here I realize it is exactly what I was hoping for!

Salar - Downtown DaytonThis brand new Oregon District restaurant opened just two weeks ago but the buzz for this contemporary restaurant with Peruvian/French flair started the moment the rumors began circulating that someone was buying the location of the former Sidebar.

Salar Restaurant in DaytonPeople have peered through the darkened windows wondering what sort of restaurant would be reopening behind those locked doors. It's hard to believe that any restaurant would be able to match the apparent class and sophistication of the former Sidebar restaurant, but Salar has risen to the challenge and even exceeded all expectations by installing a floor-to-ceiling waterfall.

I wasn't necessarily planning on ordering a cocktail but the first one that caught my eye sounded too good to pass up: Lima to Lima. It's a play on the city of Lima, Peru and our local city of Lima, Ohio. It was delicious!

The food at Salar is a step above anything I was expecting. All of the dishes are carefully planned out, which is evident in the expert blending of flavors and spices. I had the shrimp, which came with potatoes and greens. The garlic alone would have made me happy but they went beyond by adding a complex array of spices that took it to the next level.

My husband ordered the chorizo pizza and I don't think I've ever seen him love any pizza more than this one. He loved the combination of exotic Latin American flavors in an approachable format.

You owe it to yourself to experience all that Salar has to offer!
