Dayton area schools have entered the final quarter of the year and that can mean only one thing, TESTING. While this news is often met with many eye-rolls and grumbles, there are lots of ways that we can help our kids approach testing with a positive attitude. There are many things you can do to help your kids do their best during testing time. Here are a few very simple tips to take the stress out of end-of-year testing.
- Get a good night’s sleep! Being tired makes everything more challenging. It may seem like studying a few extra minutes might help students get better results, but going to bed on time and getting a full night of rest will give them a fresh start to their day and improve their overall attitude for that day’s testing.
- Eat a nutritious breakfast! Get their day started right with a healthy breakfast that will fuel them through their day. Your brain and body need to be well fed to perform to the best of your abilities.
- Don’t stress! Take time to remind your students that tests are just that, tests. Encourage them to do their best and to be proud of their hard work. This is their chance to show off what they have learned this year in school. It is important to remember that tests are a tool that we use to improve, not only for students, but also for teachers and parents as well. Tools like these help us to work together to provide the best possible education we can for our kids.
