Dayton Welcomes The Magnolia Theatre Company

Dayton’s already rich arts community just got richer. Please welcome Magnolia Theatre Company! Gina Handy founded MTC in Pennsylvania in May of 2012 and recently moved the company to Dayton. MTC produces theatre that celebrates women and is dedicated to bringing strong female characters to the stage. They live by three words: Fresh ~ Funky ~ Feminine and seek to entertain, inspire, and empower women.  In addition to bringing strong female characters to the stage, MTC is making every attempt to hire women in all technical, administrative, and creative roles.

MTC’s debut production in Dayton, “Parallel Lives” is set to run March 5 through 8 in the Mathile Theatre at Schuster Center. Parallel Lives by Mo Gaffney and Kathy Najimy is based on the stage show, and HBO special by the same name. MTC founder Gina Handy and actress Andrea Morales will star in the production.

We are invited to be whisked through the outrageous universe of Gina and Drea, where two actresses play both men and women struggling through the common rituals of modern life.  With boundless humor, Parallel Lives reexamines the ongoing quest to find parity and love in a contest handicapped by the capricious gods- or in this case, goddesses.

You’re sure to be delighted - and when was the last time you saw a live theatre production for $20? At that price, you can afford dinner somewhere other than a drive thru window before the show. What a great idea, maybe you should try one of downtown Dayton’s many fabulous restaurants. It just so happens that Olive, An Urban Dive is offering one lucky winner a $25 gift certificate along with a bottle of wine from The Barrel House to enjoy as you dine (they'll choose the wine).  Click here to enter the contest.
