(Dayton, OH) – Dayton Habitat for Humanity will dedicate a home in the Twin Towers neighborhood on Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at 812 Steele Ave. Dayton, OH 45410 at 11 a.m. for Francis Majak, his wife Panom Mading, and their five children.  Funding for the Energy Star certified home has been granted by the City of Dayton through the Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP) of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

Francis, his wife Panom, and their children immigrated to the United States in 2006 to begin a new life after escaping war-torn Sudan. Francis and Panom currently live in a small and unsafe rental house with their five children Kiir, Majack, Miakol, Akol, and Deng and Francis’s 17-year-old brother, Santino Kiir. There is not enough room to adequately house the large family; the walls are crumbling and the electrical outlets are throwing sparks.

Francis and Panom are currently enrolled in classes to improve their English skills and Francis is planning to study business administration or law. In addition to school and fulfilling their Habitat responsibilities to prepare for homeownership, they are both active in the Sudanese immigrant community and are members of Immaculate Conception parish. Their children attend Immaculate Conception School and can’t wait to move into their own home in the Twin Towers neighborhood.

About Dayton Ohio Habitat for Humanity

Founded in 1983, Dayton Ohio Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit, volunteer-driven Christian ecumenical housing ministry dedicated to providing decent, affordable housing to families in need throughout Montgomery County.

Habitat for Humanity serves as a hand up, not a hand out, for qualified low income families. Families apply to earn a home of their own. Once accepted into the program, our "Partner Families" work alongside our many volunteers to build their house. They put in 275 to 550 hours of "sweat equity” and take approximately 40 hours of classes to prepare for responsible homeownership before earning their home. Partner families make a down payment toward the purchase of their home, which is then sold to them through an affordable, interest-free mortgage held by Dayton Habitat for Humanity. Mortgage payments are put into a revolving fund to build future homes.  For more information, visit www.daytonhabitat.org.
