Concerts by Candlelight are coming to Dayton

A unique musical experience in a visually warming atmosphere is coming to Dayton after having enjoyed success in cities around the world like Paris, Barcelona and New York. Nestled in between a vast collection of flickering candles at the historic Dayton Masonic Center esteemed musicians will perform a mix of classical and modern music in July for the concert series titled ‘Candlelight.’

The locations for the Candlelight concerts are specifically chosen for their breathtaking architecture to help create a mesmerizing audience. Top-notch musicians are also selected to fulfill the magical evening. On July 10, a strings quartet named StringSource, will play Taylor Swift’s greatest hits for two shows; 6 p.m. & 8:30 p.m. Founded by violinist Kanako Shimasaki, StringSource has been featured on TLC’s “Say Yes to the Dress and VH1’s “Love & Hip Hop New York.” In addition to performing as concert musicians at Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and the Sydney Opera House. The other members are Mariko Shimasaki (violin), Phillip Goist (cello) and Shelby Thompson (viola).

StringSource has performed Candlelight concerts in Cincinnati, including one of Queen’s songs, and Kanako Shimasaki is thrilled to be bringing the experience to Dayton. “In a concert setting, we usually perform classical music. To play music by Queen and Taylor Swift is a completely different experience and it has been so much fun. The fans are hardcore and they know all of the words-depending on the crowd, sometimes we have a full sing-a-long which is really cool,” she said.

The playlist of Swift’s hits to be featured include; Shake it Off, Wildest Dreams, I Knew You Were Trouble and You Belong With Me. The concert is 60 minutes long.

On July 24 a concert featuring Vivaldi’s Four Seasons and other classical hits will be performed by the Listeso String Quartet.

Here's the schedule of Candlelight concerts at the  Dayton Masonic Center:
