URS Grows To Meet Community Needs
United Rehabilitation Services (URS) has been has been working to enhance the quality of life for children and adults with disabilities or other special needs in the Dayton area for more than 60 years. The recent completion of their latest expansion project added a new wing, doubling their capacity to serve.
As the region's leading provider of high-quality Early Childhood Education Programs for infants and children, ages 6 weeks to 17 years, URS is not just for children with developmental delays or disabilities but also children who do not have special needs. As Communications and Events Coordinator Ashley Crawford mentioned during my tour, some families have both a child with special needs and sibling(s) without. URS is able to provide quality care to all children and parents only need to make one stop on their way to and from work.
The URS program has the highest rating, 5-STARS, in the “Step Up To Quality Program”, a voluntary “star” rating system in Ohio that ensures centers meet an extensive list of quality benchmarks including low child-to-staff ratios, staff education, specialized training, and early learning standards. In fact, only 6% of Centers in Ohio have achieved this prestigious rating level! URS offers educational programs focused on the cognitive, physical, and social development of infants, toddlers, preschoolers and school-age children.
Vivian O’Connell, Development Director told me, “Parenting is a commitment filled with a multitude of challenges and responsibilities. The degree of difficulty increases significantly when your child has a disability or special need with the added stress of juggling doctor’s appointments, therapies, behavioral issues, and school integration. URS understands these challenges and provides solutions for both children and parents.
URS is the only local center of its kind offering on-site Nursing Services for children who require critical care, as well as on-site Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapies. We offer a variety of unique therapy modalities including Therapeutic Listening, VitalStim Swallowing Therapy, Augmentative Communication, and the Region's only Pediatric Aquatic Therapy Program and Universal Exercise Unit (“spider cage”). Having therapies under the same roof saves parents time and the daunting task of attending multiple appointments after work. The therapy team also works with classroom staff to integrate clinical goals into the classroom environment resulting in more rapid progress.”
URS is now enrolling infants, toddlers and preschoolers. Schedule a tour today by contacting Tracy Pohlabel, Youth Services Manager, at 937-853-5428 or tpohlabel@ursdayton.org. Visit ursdayton.org for more information.
