Congratulations to the 49 new American citizens who took the Naturalization Oath of Allegiance yesterday, April 11.

New Americans Welcomed in Dayton at Naturalization Ceremony

A heartwarming ceremony took place on Thursday, April 11th, at the US District Court in Dayton, Ohio, where 49 individuals from 26 countries officially became United States citizens.  Judge Thomas M. Rose presided over the ceremony as these new Americans pledged their allegiance to the United States.

The ceremony included Tesfalem Mehari, originally from Eritrea, who along with his brothers, celebrated becoming U.S. citizens alongside Judge Rose.  Mehari serves as president of EriDayton, a local non-profit dedicated to supporting the Eritrean community in Dayton, and works as a Refugee Resettlement Employment Specialist, helping others navigate their new lives in the U.S.

Dayton's immigrant-friendly initiatives, like the Welcome Dayton program, have fostered a supportive environment where newcomers can integrate and thrive in our local communities.  These new citizens bring a wealth of experience and perspectives, enriching the cultural tapestry of Dayton and contributing to its growth.

"The Welcome Dayton team is especially excited to congratulate our dear friends and community partners on their U.S. citizenships," said  Jeannette Horwitz, Welcome Dayton coordinator.  "These individuals and the organizations they are a part of do a lot for Dayton's immigrant and refugee populations and we are grateful for everything you contribute to our community."
