Sensory Sundays at the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery
The Boonshoft Museum of Discovery's Sensory Sunday program offers extended hours for local families with a member who has a sensory disorder, such as being on the autism spectrum. During these special hours, the Museum will adjust lighting and sound, have trained volunteers and additional staff, and offer programs that appeal to families who could benefit from a less stimulating atmosphere.
“With the modifications made to lighting and exhibits, decreased crowds, and additional staff and volunteers to help out, we have been able to host families that have not felt comfortable visiting – and for some – provided an opportunity for their first Museum experience as a family,” said Dawn Kirchner, Boonshoft Museum of Discovery Vice President of Education.
